Even though there’s some major attention going on food trucks right now, we at One Fat Frog still don’t think it’s enough. Some may incorrectly assume that a food truck is a fad that’s going on around America. But as we have blogged earlier, the food truck is an international sensation. Here are some more food trucks that are not only out of this world, but also froggin’ awesome (and weird too)!
1. Canada: Japadog
Doing fusion in any dish can go a long way, and Japadog is no exception. Whether you want a hot-dog with teriyaki sauce and mayo or a hotdog made out of shrimp tempura, this food truck company became big enough and famous enough to be visited by Anthony Bourdain. While they used to have a location in New York, they plan to open in LA, Hollywood, and Santa Monica.
2. France: Cantine California
Recently, Burgers have started to take over the French food scene. Realizing this, Cantine California sells, well burgers. But in this case, they mix American ideals with French sensibilities. One of their burgers, called the “Obama Burger,” includes gouda and arugula (salad rocket). For most of us, getting burgers usually resort to either a chain or a mom’n’pop. But maybe it would be froggin’ delicious to do burgers on a food truck as well.
3. Germany: House of the Flying Dumplings
What is in fact one of the first food trucks in Berlin, this food trucks specializes in, well you name it, dumplings. Getting Asian food in Germany is not perhaps one had thought in mind (probably because German food is a delicacy in itself), but the owners still manage to pull it off.
4. South Korea: Grill5
Surprisingly, food trucks are not big in South Korea. Why? Because street food is popular in another forum: The pojangmacha (so pretty much mobile tent-restaurants; CNN Travel wrote a good article about it). However, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. For Grill5, it’s all about tacos, quesadillas, and burritos. They will serve the occasional burger, but really the focus is on Tex-Mex. Tex-mex restaurants are typically more expensive in Korea, so those looking for an American break from Korean goodness will likely search for this Seoul gem.
