New restaurant entrepreneurs, I have some bad news for you: Continuing your education is going to be important. You’re probably thinking “what? I don’t want to take more classes! It’s not like I became a doctor!” But while you may not be in the medical field, like a doctor you have a responsibility for the health of those you serve. For that reason, it’s important to be well education in food safety. Regulations also require proper certification depending on your duties with the restaurant. One Fat Frog is happy to help you with all of that.
In case you haven’t heard us mention it before, we will be hosting a ServSafe Food Manager and Food Handler’s Test on Saturday, November 9 at 11:00 am. There will be a class led by esteemed Chef Jeff Rotz, who is founder of Chefs Helping Chefs International. Chef Jeff will teach you everything you need to know about food safety and students will then be administered the test required to obtain ServSafe certification.
In case you’re wondering, ServSafe isn’t some wacky certificate that One Fat Frog invented for fun (though I don’t blame you for considering that). This certification is administered by the National Restaurant Association. The State of Florida requires food service employees to be certified in food safety every three years and ServSafe meets that requirement. If you’ve already taken the class and are feeling like a know-it-all, you can show up and take the test without sitting through the class again. Of course, then you’d miss out on Chef Jeff and all of his charms.
If you own a restaurant or any other type of business in the food service industry, the state of Florida requires one manager in each shift to be certified in a class of this time. So if simply making the world safer for restaurant diners isn’t enough motivation to take the class – and it certainly should be! – then obeying the law should be ample motivation.
If you want to sign up for this class on Saturday, there is still plenty of time. Call One Fat Frog at 407-480-3409 and we’ll sign you up. The class will be at our new location, 2416 Sand Lake Road, Orlando, FL 32809.
