Chef April Shaw didn’t think twice when asked why people should consider buying a Rational product:
“When I was a full-time chef, I would have pulled money out of my pocket to have this,” Shaw said.
That’s mighty big praise from a chef who started as a pastry chef at world-famous resort The Greenbrier, worked as a pastry chef at Caesar’s Hotel and Casino and taught cooking to students in the Hillsborough County School District.
But that’s what Rational has done to the cooking landscape.
Started in Germany in 1973, the company has grown and grown. It invented the combi-steamer in 1976 and started selling all of its product in the United States in 1993.
Because of its technological edge, Rational holds a world market share of more than 54 percent. That means more than one in two units sold around the world now originates from Rational.
The facts are these: it reduces the use of raw materials up to 10 percent, it reduces working time, it cuts energy cost up to 60 percent and it minimizes work space up to 30 percent.
“It has the ability to make money and allow you to compete with quality food without having to change your workspace a lot,” said Shaw, who has worked for Rational for the past three years. “It allows you to cook perfect food every time with so little effort.”
