Embrace Change: A Brief Commentary

And we not only do that by offering you amazing deals on the best used restaurant equipment you can get anywhere, but we also try to offer up some advice to help your business be successful. The advice that is the subject of this commentary: embrace change.

Allow me to give you some background: as most regular readers of the blog know, I am a huge fan of a reality TV show called “Bar Rescue”. This past week’s episode featured Jon Taffer’s attempt to turn around failing bar Gipsy (bad spelling intentional), the first gay night club in Las Vegas. Before I continue, I should warn, if you’re a fellow fan and you have not seen the episode, this is your spoiler alert notice; skip to the asterisks a paragraph down. After renaming the bar and retooling the concept, owner Paul was uncomfortable with the change. In fact, he left the bar during the relaunch. When he returned a couple days later, he closed the bar, and three months later (presumably when the episode aired), the bar was still closed.

Now, on to my lesson: the hospitality industry relies on two pillars. One of them is always there: treat people well, make them happy, and give them a good experience, whether you run a restaurant, night club, bar, or whatever. The other pillar is always changing, and that is trends. Trends are constantly going from one to the other. In order for any business in the hospitality industry to stay relevant, they must be willing to move with the times.

The problem with the above-mentioned scenario is that the owner could not cope with the change. This is often true in most businesses, and in hospitality, the idea that something should work the same as it did 10 years ago is not always true. Even big name theme parks like Disney World and Universal Studios change and improve. In fact, Disney has revamped Fantasy Land, which has been one of the staples of the Magic Kingdom since it opened.

Look, we know that change can be hard. Whether it’s changing your business model, your concept, or even your business’s name, it can be a struggle. But you have to remember, it’s for the right reasons. You don’t want your business to go under, as your family and employees depend on you and the business. Sometimes change is necessary, even drastic ones, so you have to be willing to take that leap when you know it’s time.

By the way, for those unfamiliar with the show, you should check it out on Spike TV, Sunday nights at 9pm eastern. And for ideas of change or just ideas to get started, we can help you with that here at One Fat Frog. We help you get the equipment with the huge warehouse we have (and we’re going to have a bigger one really soon), we help you buy the equipment with our financing option, we help you keep the equipment in shape with our 30 day parts and labor warranty, and we offer you awesome free stuff, like free delivery to most of Florida, like Jacksonville, Gainesville, Ocala, Miami, Melbourne, Tampa, Daytona, and a whole lot more.
