Lion Meat Uproar in Tampa

A taco restaurant in Tampa, FL recently saw some backlash after offering lion tacos on the menu. Taco Fusion offered this dish alongside its other exotic menu items, including shark, ostrich, camel, and kangaroo. The restaurant is planning on trying out iguana, bear, and zebra in the future.

Despite the backlash and online threats, the restaurant quickly sold out of lion tacos. Even with the price at $35 a taco, they still sold fast. Owner Ryan Gougeon told the press that just because someone doesn’t agree with serving the meat, doesn’t mean that a lot of other people agree.

Activists for the preservation of big cats stated that the restaurant was exploiting creatures to sell them as a novelty and that the line has to be drawn somewhere.
