The Internet is a playground. Yesterday the Burger King Twitter got hacked by the hacker group Anonymous. They changed the avatar to the McDonald’s logo and tweeted “We just got sold to McDonalds! Look for McDonalds in a hood near you!” Their social media tea probably had a hair-trigger aneurysm.
The Burger King Twitter feed quickly filled up with ludacris statements about Burger King food and staff, shoutouts to rappers, and RTs of twitter users embracing the hack.
Hacker group Anonymous claimed responsibility, titling the hack #OPMadCow.
Burger King was unable to regain control of the account and wound up having to delete it and start all over again.
Here’s the official statement from BK:
“It has come to our attention that the Twitter account of the BURGER KING® brand has been hacked. We have worked directly with administrators to suspend the account until we are able to re-establish our legitimate site and authentic postings. We apologize to our fans and followers who have been receiving erroneous tweets about other members of our industry and additional inappropriate topics.”
