The National Chicken Council is a non-profit organization that represents those in the chicken industry. They have released their annual statement of how many wings are expected to be consumed this Super Bowl weekend. They are projecting…1.23 billion chicken wings consumed. Once again, I must take a step back and marvel at that fact. That’s 615,000,000 chickens (that’s right, I did the math) to sacrifice themselves so us humans at the top of the food chain can enjoy their wings battered and fried in honor of watching men who could beat most of us up beat each other up in one of the most watched television events of all time.
Some of you may interpret that paragraph to be sarcastic, but truthfully, it isn’t. It’s great that we have groups like the National Chicken Council that can represent those in the industry that provide us with our favorite foods and products. I am glad we live in a world where all can find themselves represented by a great group of individuals who are trying to make these industries better. And I am celebrating the fact that, once again, I get to enjoy one of the greatest sporting events in the world with good friends, good food, and good drinks, and I am completely stoked on that fact.
So, thank you NCC for the awesome new fun fact that I now know and I look forward to doing my part in consuming my share of chicken wings. Go Ravens!
