Edward I. Koch, former three-term mayor of New York, died early this morning from congestive heart failure at age 88. During his terms, he was known for being a feisty showman who was present whenever a big event in the city was going down. His 12-year mayoralty saw the austerity of the 1970s and the racial conflicts and political corruption scandals of the 1980s.
After leaving office in 1989, Koch continues to stay in the public eye as a television judge, radio talk-show host, author, lawyer, newspaper columnist, movie critic, and commercial pitchman.
