The layout and all other required documents first need to be submitted to the plan review office of FDBPR. Under Florida Administrative Code, the layout and plans must be drawn to scale and include:

“All equipment identified (including handwash sink(s), warewash sink(s), food preparation sink, mop sink, stove, front-line refrigerator, walk-in cooler, etc.). Bathrooms; dining areas; wait station; finish schedules; water and sewer information.”

These completed plans must be submitted along with a completed Application for Plan Review, proof of approved water and sewer, menu, and a $150 plan review fee. Along with these items, you can also submit your license application and licensing fee.

These plans have to submitted for any new construction, remodeling of an existing establishment (if the process changes sanitation, safety, restrooms, etc.), reopening an establishment that has been closed over a year, or conversion of an existing structure for use a restaurant.

What doesn’t need to go before the review board are any cosmetic changes. Things like painting, carpeting, or replacing old equipment don’t need to be submitted for review. If you’re unsure, you can always call the Customer Contact Center at 850.487.1395 to clear things up.

After you pass your review, don’t rest yet. You’re also going to need to contact your building department, fire department, zoning department, occupational leasing office, sales tax office, and, is there’s booze involved, the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco.
