A lesson from a Delivery Driver

Received a call last week from a great customer in Clermont who said, “Google Girl, I want you to know just how good your delivery drivers were to me.  They were so polite and helpful.  I just couldn’t get over it.” This customer told me her hubby was not at the business when she took delivery and yet our team made it so simple for her.

I just had to give the drivers the feedback.  They smiled and were happy to hear that someone went out of their way to call in and share that with us.

One of the delivery drivers said to me, “my personal thing is, these people are like guests at my house.  I want to make sure they feel welcome and know we are glad to have them.”  I thought this was very poignant and thoughtful from Mr. R.

A little about Mr. R- when we buy the team pizza there come texts from him, “Thanks for the lunch.”  When he gets overtime, “thanks for the opportunity to work extra.”

Just plain good people.  This is what the Frog is about.  And we’re proud of it.  Part of our plan is making sure we have a good honest team behind us, in front of us and beside us.

Had a customer come in two weeks ago, said she felt alone and overwhelmed by the process of opening the restaurant.  We talked a lot, one of the points, you’re not alone when you work with the Frog.  We’re here to help you get into business… that’s what it’s about!

free custom cutting boards and warranties

Sometimes it’s easy to forget just who we are at the Frog.  We had a customer come in on Friday to buy a pizza prep table True 60″.  They were surprised that we had it in stock, that it would come with warranty and a new cutting board.  They wondered why someone else would try to sell it on the internet for a $1000- more without a cutting board, saying it was technician tested but without warranty.

I wondered that too…

Why wouldn’t you shop a the Frog?  It just doesn’t make sense.   I guess we’re outside of the industry norm offering things like free delivery to a lot of Florida, free custom paint jobs and cut rate pricing along with our warranty.

Shop at the Frog, we’re cheap and we know it.  We love working with clients and saving them money.  Perhaps our business model is backwards, but it’s been working for almost a decade.  We are here to save you money.  Unlike other dealers whose primary business is new equipment, the Frog does used.

You might be seeing lots of dealers try to jump in the used equipment game.  Our team makes it look easy but let me tell you between degreasers, electrical fidgeting and new seals then you add in parts ordering, a lot goes on at the Frog.  Ask if you really are getting something that is warrantied and WHO worked on it.  Is it an in-house technician or out of house tech?

YUP, we are known nationwide for used restaurant equipment.  We have separate warehouse facilities for our technicians.  We have a technical staff who specializes in refrigeration and staff who specializes in gas.  Yet others are trained to work with single phase and three phase electric, circuit boards and general mechanics.  At the Frog we have staff who specializes in paint and cosmetics.  We also have staff who just cleans.  YUP, their WHOLE ENTIRE job is cleaning.  Then we have the delivery team (who according to client feedback last week “are the nicest guys in the world”).

We’re expanding…

I can’t tell you how we’re expanding now, but suffice it to say that it’s not my waistline this time!  Yup- look for big changes coming.  We’re expanding staff… lots of training going on and … well, I’ll let you know more as we’re going.

But for now I wanna tell you a funny story about one of the newbies.  Came to the interview in a suit.  Yup, I normally try to warn these folks that we’re not stuff suit and tie folks… but he did it anyway.

That’s okay… will leave us loads of jokes on his behalf for the suit… Sort of like Mr. Mohawk who showed up once upon a time on our doorstep in a three piece and trenchcoat.  He’ll likely never live that down.  Nevaaaaaaaah! <insert evil laughter here>

I was just one table away from Great service

I admit it, I was just one table away from Great service.  That’s right.  I could hear it going on at the table behind me.  I envied the people getting salad plates with their bowl of salad, I interrupted random servers for straws.

It’s true, I am probably both one of your hardest tables and simultaneously one of the easiest going.  I have just under a mazillion kids so anytime I make it out of the house without cooking a meal, with under ten tantrums, my clothing in tact (ie- no stains, mismatched shoes- and we’re talking me, not the midgets) well then life is good.  I dream of drinking something that’s not out of the soda fountain but since I have the mazillion kids I don’t get to do that, either.  Okay, so I admit, I longingly look at the booze on the table next to me… I adore it, sometimes I outright drool but I keep it in check.

I tried to write off the poor service telling my husband, oh his timing’s off.  Hubby tells me, yeah well it’s off on every table.  Then hubby turns around to a flock of servers who have gathered to do something… we’re still not quite sure… and asks them for help.

Beyond timing there was this little thing like bringing things we needed once the course was done, or coming to talk to the table and addressing us from three feet away (ie- the middle of the main walkway) so you didn’t realize the server was talking to you until he reached in and took away something you weren’t quite finished with.

Now mind you, after the meal is done, my husband has left the table with half the mazillion children so I’m patiently sitting at the table with the other mazillion kids, grab the bill and he breezes through I’ll be back in just a sec… countdown… many seconds go on.  The Space Shuttle could have launched several times- even with delays-

And at the table next to us the server was debonair, suave and on time.  I looked longingly as he laughed with his happy table, knowing I was just one table away from Great service.

Service- that’s what it’s about at restaurants.  Does your training program focus enough on customer service and how they want it when they come in?

Used Restaurant just coming in…

The Frog never sleeps.  We had trucks out until late Friday night and then on the weekend too.  Truckloads of equipment are coming in and here is a short highlight of some of the items that I heard are coming in:

  • chairs!

This week is proving to be veddy veddy busy with several more truckloads coming in throughout the week of everything from convection ovens to steamers

Late Nights

You know you’re a Frog when you start thinking about restaurant equipment even when you’re not at work.  Four Eyed Frog is all proud of himself for recognizing Rationale ovens being used in the field.  Then Mr. Mohawk talked about visiting different groceries and stores and labeling all the equipment and how they might be better implementing space.

Even the Finance Manager is in on the Gig.  Gotta love that guy- just can’t back up a truck to save his life but he keeps trying.  Same with credit applications- if at first you don’t get approved he’s going to partner with you to help you find approval and he’s relentless!

Did you miss me?

Four- eyed Frog has been posting a lot on the blog of late.  Did you miss me?  Yup, Google Girl here and I’m fingers poised and ready to leave you some love notes.

It will be my job here on out to tell you the truth about Four- Eyed Frog and his shenanigans since you really don’t know all the things; he’d like to say his life is squirrel rescue, but really he’s not too much like Dave from Chipmunks.   Well, come to think of that, he just may be.

Now, little known fact about Four- Eyed Frog?  His significant other is a physicist.  That’s something special for sure.  We have a lot of men here at the Frog who love smart and strong women.  In fact our Finance Manager used to date a Rocket Scientist and I mean that in all the literal meaning.  So, smart girls, come to the Frog you’re valued here.

What else is going on at the Frog?

Mr. Mohawk’s baby woke him up at 1:30 a.m.   She was a little fussy.  Seasoned mommy here told him more cereal in the bottle before bedtime.  We’ll make Mr. Momma of him yet.

The Divine Ms. J… well she’s a sweetheart.  Nothing to pick on her yet.  I’ve heard a warehouse guy or two has said va-va-voom but we’re not going to go there much.  Shame on you Mr. Warehouse guy.

School starts soon in Orange County, even sooner for our Seminole County store employees.  Kids are going back-to-school shopping for the Fall, too!

Guiness, weight loss and PBR

So Mr. Mohawk just tells me he’s cutting down on the fats so he’s running to Subway in South Orlando for lunch, do I want anything?  I tell him, well perhaps we should think about him cutting down on the Guinness beer.  He looks at me and begins telling me seriously how healthy Guinness beer is.  He googles an article and begins reading me the health benefits.

This then dovetails how he went to a bar this past weekend and they did not serve the Guinness over a spoon and there was too much head.  He doesn’t not like Guinness at home either, he drinks (drumroll please) PBR at home.  It seems like a large jump to me.  Now, risking the cease and desist letter from Guinness here… lol…. but the boys in the office are now telling me back in college that PBR sent out coupons and was very accommodating to those throwing parties in college.

It also seems that Mr. Mohawk has some sort of Guinness hat he wore to their birthday party.

So Subway for lunch it is in South Orlando… eh?

Funny stuff in the office

One of our Salesguys has a mohawk, so when other folks when to Disney this weekend and saw a blinking mohawk headpiece… well….

Stories in the office:  one of my coworkers refused to bath for over a week as a child.  Seems they were worried about a clown coming out of the drain.  I’m not going to tell you who, but come on in and I’ll point and heckle…lol… oh yeah I’m also supposed to specify this happened when he was 9 years old and not last week, but I’ll let you be the judge of that.

One of my friends is currently hitchhiking and camping their way across Scotland and it seems they’re eating Haggis today.  Enough said, I’ll share pictures if they come about.

On a serious note we’ve been expanding, expanding, expanding and have hired on more technicians, office staff and warehouse staff.  We’re very happy to welcome this new staff to our team and busy facility in South Orlando.

Shhhh…. also some expansion plans going on here, boss said I cannot tell you more yet, but it’s getting ready to happen sooner than later!
