Shady used restaurant equipment dealers… I REALLY hate nothing more about this industry than liars, cheats and thieves! Did I say how much I really hate liars? For every few good dealers there is one or two bad dealers out there and the rest of us suffer because of their lack of ethics. Unfortunately for the us, the escapades of the bad dealers and the complaints about them cause repercussions across the industry. When I go to professional meetings I sometimes shudder to share that we sell used restaurant equipment for that reason- people begin to look at you and wonder about your integrity.

We know this in that we continue to expand in this industry and the factory representatives who go from dealership to dealership are always amazed how busy we are in this economy. In my book and the One Fat Frog Restaurant Equipment belief system, there is nothing that stands higher in life than telling the truth and doing the right thing. If that means loosing a sale then so be it, it’s more important that we look out for our client’s best interest than the almighty dollar. And in fact you can’t even call it loosing a sale. It’s the whole golden rule thing- treating someone as you would have them treat you.
Now selling used restaurant equipment does come with its own set of problems. It could of course need work and even with the new equipment one might need to fix something- the perils of freight and installation- it’s just the nature of the business. But you need to make it right- that’s just the bottom line. And lying to folks before the sale has even been made- that’s just downright deplorable.
Take today for instance, now you’re never going to hear me call out a dealership by name if they’re dishonest, my momma taught me if you don’t have anything good to say about someone then you should just keep it to yourself. But today, this is what set off the rant… lying to a church! That is downright despicable and really just wrong on so many levels.
The saddest part of this is that lying to a church- do you really have to stoop that low to make a buck?
What can I suggest you do? Look at the Better Business Bureau complaint list about dealers, research if there are open court cases and most of all use your common sense. Look around the business, have they been in business for a while? Are they a big enough business to support employees or are they running out of a little office and a dirty warehouse?
