Used Restaurant Equipment Information FAQs

Here are few quick FAQs about One Fat Frog Restaurant Equipment

I’ll take it – please hold it for me and I’ll get you payment in a few weeks:

  • Due to our high volume and quick turnover we cannot hold equipment.  This policy means you must pay in full for the used equipment to be yours.  This policy is in place due to the customers who <unfortunately> have promised that they will pay and don’t.  In the meantime we have lost sales.  It’s just simple, we have great prices, probably the lowest prices out there and if you want it well please buy it.  Don’t hold your breath, it won’t be here in a few weeks or maybe even a few days.  We seem to be selling out rather rapidly lately.

I can get it for $20 cheaper on the internet or from Joe’s garage storage unit.

  • A short parable for you about sushi.  I can get sushi at my local grocery story for cheap and if I make it at home.. well obscenely cheap.  That being said I prefer to go to Amura’s for sushi because the quality of food really supercedes grocery store sushi and we can all imagine that my home sushi falls apart, there is ambience and wait staff at Amura’s who ensures the quality and timely delivery of the food and they make sure I have exactly what I need when I need it.  Restaurant equipment is just like sushi.  Do you prefer to save $50 and spend 20 hours looking for that deal?  My time is more valuable and I prefer to have someone who specializes in sushi make sushi for me.  I do not pretend to know everything about sushi or where to get the freshest seafood, in fact that’s true on all of the ingredients for sushi and additionally I don’t have a mat, sushi case or other items.  Now the great thing about Amura’s is that if (and it’s never happened) there was a problem with the sushi, the waiter would take take care of it in the kitchen and if it comes to the table and there’s a probelm the waiter will take it back and if they can’t help me there is a manager, waitstaff and several chefs to make things right.  FULL Service Restaurant Equipment dealers are like that.  I can’t tell you how often a freight company brings us equipment damaged in transit.  We take care of it.  That’s what we do.  So the real question is what is your time worth?  Are you interested in quality or shaving off the last cent
  • A customer came in today.  Told me about the great deal they got at xxx auction and an online website.  Super equipment, give-a-way pricing and yet… well the equipment didn’t meet their needs.  One unit had electrical application that wouldn’t work at their facility and the other piece needed repairs.  Yes, most pieces of used restaurant equipment that come into One Fat Frog need some sort of repair or technical assistance.  This is just the nature of used restaurant equipment- the customer should not have purchased either piece of equipment from the sources they did; it was equipment that they didn’t need and also equipment that needed work.  An honest salesperson would have steered them away from the equipment.  It’s the ethical thing to do.

What do you mean by Integrity?

  • A truck pulled up next to me at a stop light today.  The business name was “Integrity First Lawn Service”  what a nifty name.  Around One Fat Frog Restaurant Equipment integrity and honesty are paramount to the business.  We stand by our word and our product.  And when the technicians wear deoderant we stand by them too… <poke, poke, jab jab> and on that note I better add they’re pretty good smelling guys so I can’t tease much about them.

Pathways Homeless donation needs

After my visit to Pathways last weekend I jotted down a few areas that donations would be exceptionally well-used.  Let it be said, this is my rough list.  Pathways accepts all donations and is a not-for-profit (ie- tax deductible donation) organization.  If you’d like to drop off your donation at One Fat Frog Restaurant Equipment call (407) 936-2733 or stop in at our showroom off Airport Boulevard.

When you find something good you just want it to flourish.

I have to tell you a little story, on the weekend my family likes to spend time at Lake Eola which is downtown Orlando.  (Personally I found it shameful that the city outlawed feeding the homeless downtown.  Feeding someone who is hungry should NEVER be a crime… but I digress.)  So we normally go to the playground at Eola and walk around the lake, saying hello, greeting folks and petting dogs.  With a three and a five year old it’s hard not to be sociable and interact in the world.

Many of the folks at Pathways seemed so familiar.  I know I must have seen them at Lake Eola.

And you know what… the most humbling thing happened as we walked through Pathways, one of the women (I believe her name was Mary) made sure each of my girls had a drink and even offered to share her food with them.  Now normally it’s the generosity of my little girls that makes me burst out in tears, but when a homeless person who isn’t sure where their next meal will come from looks to share with children.

There is good in the world.  I know it.  I’ve found it.

When someone who has nothing can share then you and I who have everything can surely share.  Share what you can.  I promise you that even a dollar will make a difference at Pathways.  If you need to drop off donations you may email me at connieb@onefatfrog.com for directions.

It costs to be homeless

Did you know it costs to be homeless?  Count me naive, but here is something new I learned this weekend.  For the first ?2 or 3? days each year you stay at the Salvation Army it’s free, thereafter it’s $9/day.  Now, this truly was news to me.  I always wondered why folks didn’t go to the homeless shelter when it got cold.

Now, I still have to fully figure this out, but from what I’m putting together it might cost a homeless person under $300 a month to stay at the homeless shelter.  Mind you this is a person without a permanent address or a place to regularly bathe, so how are they holding a job or even finding one?   Add in mental illness and the equation just gets tougher and tougher.

So, how many of us can afford to be homeless?  Really that is the question…

And I ask you please, please can you assist the homeless shelter in your area?  Can you donate to Pathways in Orlando to help the mentally ill homeless?  I will write further about my tour last weekend of the facility.  Suffice it to say I met some of the kindest folks there and was really wowed by the Director- Nelson.   He is an amazing man and his vision certainly drives the center.

Now back in my day… (ah, yeah, circa 1980s) I was a social worker.  Call me bleeding heart, call me commie, but I worked to help the people or at least that’s what I thought working managed care.  I was on the other side of the system but as equally frustrated by it as the recipients or clients.

Can you imagine waiting hours and hours to see a doctor for a prescription and then waiting more hours for medication?  Now you say, what does a homeless person have to do with their time otherwise.  True enough, but don’t all of us deserve the dignity of attention as an individual?   I REALLY dig that Pathways is for the mentally ill and managed by the mentally ill.  Who knows your needs more than your population?

I could go on and on with my personal soapbox, but it really doesn’t matter.  What matters is that this underserved population receives the support they need.  Our generosity of just a dollar or two – or better yet in kind donations- will make a BIG DIFFERENCE.

Perhaps I’ve taken on this cause with a passion because of a dear friend who suffered from mental illness and passed away a few years ago.  Julia was a bright light and will be missed.  Thankfully she had a family with means to help her avoid homelessness, but there are many who don’t have the financial or emotional ability to help out with a roof.

I invite you to tour Pathways, call us at One Fat Frog and let me take you out there or call Lt. Deanne Adams to meet her there.  Make a difference.   I guarantee you, once you visit Pathways you’ll never be the same!

Let’s make it easy for folks to have a roof over their head.  Maybe we should take up some donations for homeless shelter gift certificates- there you go.. need a present for someone who has everything?  Send some money to Pathways in their honor, ear mark the money so that someone will have a roof over their head.  It’s only $9 bucks a day at the Salvation Army and you and I struggle in recession?

On a separate note we were able to make a token donation to Chef Jeff and EHS students to help their local homeless shelter- two things I dearly love supporting the homeless and teenagers.  Either way it’s the best money spent this week.

May your week be wonderful, you businesses prosperous and a roof over your head-

Professionalism- one thing that separates One Fat Frog Restaurant Equipment from the competition.  We would like to thank Darden Restaurants for their gracious hosting of the recent WFF event today.

We also had the opportunity to try their new line cooked on the grills that we wrote about earlier in the week.  Very good and might I highly recommend the vegetables that were prepared!
